Music Unites
February 4, 2014
Project Details
An encounter between people with and without disabilities, brought together through the universal language of music.
What We Did
Aliento del Viento organized musical gatherings that created spaces where everyone could participate equally, regardless of ability. Through three types of experiences, we explored how music naturally breaks down barriers and builds connections.
Musical Evening
We shared relaxing and healing music from diverse cultures and traditions. Participants experienced the sounds of instruments from around the world—the caisa, shanti, Tibetan bowls, shruti box, sansula, Native American flute, maracas, drums, and guitar—and discovered firsthand the transformative power of music.

Mantra Circle
Singing simple, rhythmic mantras together is a powerful way to increase vitality, creativity, and joy. We chanted dynamic mantras from various traditions, accompanied by drums and maracas. No prior knowledge was needed—just a willingness to sing, and if desired, to play along.
Drumming Workshop
Playing together, letting different rhythms flow and merge, discovering new patterns, creating shared beats—the drumming workshops were about connection, fun, and release. No musical experience was required. We provided drums for those who didn’t have their own, and everyone was welcome to simply show up and play.
Tamborcito, cura. Tamborcito cura mi corazon (Little drum, heal. Little drum heal my heart)

Why It Mattered
Music doesn’t ask about abilities or disabilities. It invites everyone to participate in their own way. These gatherings proved that when we create the right space, barriers disappear naturally—and what remains is simply people making music together.
