Supporting Our Volunteers: Federico and Alessandro Walk Towards Gaza

Share

Two young volunteers connected to Aliento del Viento—Federico and Alessandro—have made a personal decision to join the Italian delegation of the Global March to Gaza.

This journey was not organized by Aliento del Viento, but when Federico and Alessandro came to us with their hearts full of determination and their intention clear, we knew we had to support them.

Why They’re Going

Federico shared his reason simply:

“Watching videos of these massacres, of this genocide, I kept asking myself: Can I really just watch? Can I do nothing? What can I do? That’s when I discovered the March to Gaza. For me, it was essential to take action—to try, to put something into motion.”

Alessandro echoed this sentiment, speaking of the need to go beyond social media shares and symbolic gestures:

“We think sharing content online is doing something concrete. But real solidarity requires presence, risk, witness.”

Aliento’s Role: Supporting Conscience in Action

At Aliento del Viento, we believe in supporting those who act from conscience—especially young people willing to take personal risks to stand against injustice.

Federico and Alessandro are not going as official representatives of Aliento. They are going as individuals following their hearts. But we stand with them. We support their courage. And we will help amplify their witness when they return.

This is what “breath of the wind” means: giving support beneath the wings of those who choose to fly toward justice, even when the journey is uncertain.

The Risks Are Real

This is not a light decision. The day before departure, other marchers were being stopped at airports. Organizers warned of potential detention, document confiscation, and surveillance.

Federico and Alessandro are going anyway—fully aware that the march will likely be blocked, but believing that the act of trying matters more than guaranteed success.

As Federico put it:

“The result isn’t even that important. What matters is the action itself, putting energy into movement and saying ‘enough.’ With my conscience, I say: this is not acceptable. One way or another, I will try to change things.”

We Will Share Their Witness

Over the coming days, we will share updates from Federico and Alessandro—their experiences at the border, the realities they witness, and the story of what happens when ordinary people try to stand up for human dignity in the face of state power.

Whether they reach Gaza or are turned back, their testimony will matter.
