Dreamers of Peace: Creative Event for Children in Syracuse

On May 18, 2022, Piazza Santa Lucia in Syracuse came alive with the voices, colors, and dreams of children participating in a special creative event: “I Sognatori di Pace” (The Dreamers of Peace).

This event was part of “The Voice of Children” project, created in collaboration with Collettivo Artisti Uniti and Associazione Culturale Racha Colomba.

A Space for Expression

From 4:30 PM, children of all ages were invited to participate in creative exercises where they could express their vision of peace. Through drawing, writing, and decorating swallows—symbols of freedom and hope—children shared their deepest wishes for a better world.

The swallow became the messenger of their dreams. Each child decorated their own swallow with personal messages, ready to “fly with the wind” and carry their voices to the world.

Why This Matters

In a world where children are often told what to think rather than asked what they feel, events like this create essential space for authentic expression. The messages created that day remind us that children have profound wisdom about peace, community, and what truly matters in life.

As one of the swallows proclaimed: “A TUTTI I SOGNATORI DI PACE” (To all the dreamers of peace)—an invitation for everyone to dream of and work toward a more peaceful world.
