From Design to Reality

After months of planning and design work by Ben De Gieter from HoGent high school, the wheelchair swing project moved into its most exciting phase: construction.

In September 2014, final-year students at VTI (a technical school) began building the prototype of the wheelchair swing in sustainable wood. Guided by specialists in woodwork, playground safety, and wheelchair accessibility, the students carefully crafted each component.

Craftsmanship and Collaboration

These photos capture the dedication and skill involved in creating something that would change children’s lives. The students worked with precision to build a swing that needed to be strong, safe, accessible for wheelchairs, and made from sustainable materials.

The triangular wooden frame structure and the specialized wheelchair platform took shape in the school’s workshop, transforming technical expertise into real inclusion.
